Student Counsellor - Keira Govier (she/her)

Hello, my name is Keira Govier and I’m an Honours Bachelor of Social Work Student at Lakehead University. I’m in my final year and excited to complete my 4th-year placement at NWOCC.
My approach is very strength-based and client-centered with focus on creating a safe and warm space for my client. I like to focus on pulling existing strengths from clients to help with the issues at hand as well as work toward desired goals. My approach emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship between the client and the counsellor in order for the client to feel heard, cared for and understood. Above everything else, I want my clients to feel comfortable enough in my presence to be able to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences.
My areas of interest include clients struggling with Anxiety and/or Depression. My ideal client would be aged 18+ and eager to grow alongside me. I will be starting the Affordable Counselling Program at NWOCC. Please click here to learn more about this program and reach out if you feel it would be a good fit for you and your needs!
